About Famous Photos
Famous Photos is a dance photography company based in the Okanagan Valley.
We are Famous Photos, Amie & Alexis, 2 mamas, dancers & photographers who put our passions together and grew our small dance photography business established in 2013.
We specialize in capturing the artistry, technique, and individuality of dancers at all levels. Our background as dancers gives us a unique perspective behind the camera, allowing us to highlight the movement, emotion, and precision that make each dancer stand out.
Dancers First, Photographers Second
We understand dance because we have lived it. With years of experience in both performance and instruction, we know how to capture the perfect lines, the height of a leap, and the emotion behind each movement. Our goal is to provide dancers with images that showcase their talent and dedication in a way that only another dancer can appreciate.
Our Services
Famous Photos offers two primary services:
- Dance Class Photo Sessions: These sessions are scheduled by dance studio managers and take place at the studio. We capture both class and individual portraits in a structured, efficient session. Parents can later purchase digital images and prints online.
- Luxury Photo Sessions: These are custom, high-end individual sessions designed to highlight a dancer’s unique artistry. These photoshoots can take place anywhere, allowing for creative, personalized images that showcase a dancer’s style and personality.
Meet the Photographer
Amie Roussel
I am a mother of three and a photographer with a background in dance. Ballet introduced me to movement, and movement led me to photography.
I grew up in Northern Alberta, training in ballet and Ukrainian dance before expanding into other styles in high school. After graduation, I trained in Vancouver and then spent a year at the International School of Ballet in Paris.
I returned home and ran a non-profit dance studio for four years. During the summers, I traveled and studied dance in Toronto, LA, New York, Tokyo, London, Bangkok, Buenos Aires, Cuzco, Rio de Janeiro, and Hong Kong.
Nine years ago, I moved to the Okanagan, got married, and earned a digital photography diploma at CATO in Kelowna. While dancing for a production company, I met Alexis. We shared the same vision, and in 2013, we started Famous Photos, a photography business focused on capturing dancers.
I now live in Vernon, where I teach ballet at Accentz Dance Studio and run Amie Roussel Photography (formerly Carousel Studios). Photography allows me to show dancers the results of their work. Seeing them recognize their progress in a single image is why I do this.
Meet the Photographer
Alexis Feist
I am a mother, a wife, and a photographer with a deep connection to dance. Movement shaped how I see the world and continues to shape how I capture it. I grew up in Kamloops, BC, where dance became my passion and my path. I trained in a wide range of styles and started teaching at a young age, first in my home studio and later in high school.
I pursued dance at a professional level, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Contemporary Dance, With Distinction, from the University of Calgary. During this time, I worked with renowned Canadian and European choreographers, expanding my understanding of movement and performance.
Now, I live in the Okanagan, where I balance photography with family life. Alongside Famous Photos, I run Alexis Feist Photography, capturing life’s special moments. Famous Photos keeps me connected to dance and the incredible talent in this valley. The support of the dance community has made our business thrive, and for that, we are truly grateful.
